My husband likes sports. I like shoes. And never the twain shall meet, I thought. Except when I first started noticing the fabulous Steve Madden brand of shoes at the better stores in town.

“Wow,” I thought, “Isn’t this wonderful?  Here’s that big old guy my husband always watches talk during football games on television. And the guy’s not only a football expert but he’s also an entrepreneur who’s making really cute shoes!”

Why not? Other sports celebrities have clothing labels, shoe brands and restaurants.So I figured if this Madden football guy was designing shoes or attaching his name to them, they’re probably really well-made shoes.

One day I tried on a pair of Steve Madden platform sandals. Platform sandals are one of those things that like low-rise blue jean bell bottoms, I swore I would never wear again and then changed my mind. My husband is tall and I’m short so I can use a little height. These tan platform sandals looked terrific and were unbelievably comfortable. I could even dance in them. And what a great value!  I’ve worn them for several summers now and they still look fantastic. I am amazed at how the heels and soles have held up.

I realize now that the football guy is John Madden, not Steve Madden. But I remain grateful to him for prompting me to buy Steve Madden shoes.
