HSBC Direct.com
These days we want to make sure that whatever we can manage to save is earning a good interest rate. We know that there are still safe banks out there that offer no-fee online savings accounts with good interest rates, but which one to choose?
My brother who is a CPA was over our house recently for a barbecue so we asked him about it. He’s very conservative about investing and he also doesn’t like giving financial advice to family members. But he told us that we should always keep some funds safe in a separate account. He said, as he put mustard on his dog, that the best place right now for our money would be an online high-yield savings account that has FDIC insurance. One of the better known options, he said as he reached for a carrot stick, is HSBC Direct.
Online savings accounts such as the HSBC Direct accounts are generally a good deal, he said, because they give you a higher rate without requiring a minimum balance or charging fees that detract from your savings.
That’s great, I said. But how do we do our banking? He replied, you can manage your account from anywhere you can access the internet. But he added, I know you never seem to have enough cash on you sis, so with the HSBC Direct ATM or credit card you can use HSBC ATMs too. They’ve got about 395,000 of them nationwide. So that should even be enough for you. He grinned. Then he dodged as I winged a dill slice at him.
But later that evening as I waited for the dishwasher to finish its cycle, I checked online and found out that my brother is right. No, not about me not carrying cash but about HSBC Direct. Then when I was clicking around on Coupon Cactus, I discovered that by using their HSBC Direct link we get $6 cash back just for opening an account. That entitles me to a guilt-free extra big vanilla latte!
